From 2001, TuttoEuropa offered courses that contributed to the internationalization of Turin and the region of Piedmont for its role as host city of the Torino 2006 Olympic Games. In recent years local institutions and agencies for the development of this area have worked together to promote the city of Turin in order to make it competitive with other European cities. The Olympic Games in Turin gave our city an international dimension and offered us a great opportunity to reach ambitious targets. The international character the Olympic experience gave to the city has been consolidated in the years following 2006 and many areas of the Turin business world have taken on an international outlook. Besides its traditional identity as a major centre for automobile production, Turin has now developed new industries, ranging from tourism (leisure, wine and food, conference – e.g. the World Architecture Congress 2008) to high tech and telecommunications. This new outward looking city and region now need interpreters, translators and linguistic mediators for the promotion of the City and to facilitate communication in this international and multilingual environment. The following training projects were presented (in accordance with Labour Market Directive 2008/09)
All the listed courses were approved for financing after the projects submitted received excellent scores in government assessments The projects are financed by the following institutions and agencies: Students accepted in the courses are exempt from fees as the funding covers all expenses of tuition and the use of course materials and aids. Classes consist of groups of 12 to 15 students selected through stringent written and oral tests. The number of candidates seeking admission is much higher than the number of places offered, thus ensuring rigorous student selection and an advanced starting level. At the last entrance examinations (October 2007) 341 graduates competed for the 90 places available. Course StructureEach course consists of a class of 15 students. Applicants are selected for the courses on the base of academic qualifications, working status and high scores on admission tests. All taught courses require compulsory class attendance (including theory, practical activities and seminars) completed by a work experience placement of approx. 30% of total course time. Class attendance is compulsory but completely free of charge. The Postgraduate Diploma Courses in Translating and Interpreting are recognized by the Libera Università San Pio V in Rome as meeting the requirements (60 Credits) of the first year of their two-year Master’s Degree in Literary or Technical Scientific Translation. Through this accreditation the students can be admitted to the second year of the Laurea Specialistica (Second Level Degree) in "Literary or technical-scientific Translation" (code104/S) and in "Conference Interpreting" (code 39/S) at San Pio V University as our Postgraduate Diploma curriculum includes all the modules of the first year of the Laurea Specialistica. |
